Hove, Actually

As a personal trainer, I spend a lot of time chatting with clients – about life, work, films, books, and, of course, our favourite local spots. I even keep a whiteboard full of recommendations. After six years living here and running my business in West Hove, I’ve gathered plenty of insider tips about the area.

So, whether you’re a local looking for new spots or just visiting, here’s my personal guide to the best of Hove.

Outdoor Spaces

Hove is packed with green spaces that make it easy to get outside and stay active. Spending time in nature is one of the best things we can do for our physical and mental health.

  • Hove Park – Perfect for families, dog walkers, and tennis players. It’s also home to one of Hove’s two Parkruns.
  • Wish Park – A bit of an underrated gem, just a five-minute walk from the seafront.
  • Sainsbury’s to the Downs Walk – A hidden local path that leads up to Devil’s Dyke — ideal for a weekend walk or run. Starts from Old Shoreham Road Sainsbury’s.
  • Hove Promenade Parkrun – A beautiful flat route along the seafront for runners of all levels.

Coffee Spots

Coffee is an excellent way to boost energy and motivation, making it my go-to cuppa before any run or weightlifting session. Packed with antioxidants, it serves as a healthier alternative to sugary drinks. Just remember to be mindful of your caffeine intake after midday, as it can impact your sleep quality.

Hove is truly spoilt for choice when it comes to exceptional coffee. Here are a few standout spots that every coffee lover should check out:

  • Fika
  • 17 Grams
  • Blend Coffee
  • Little Bruce
  • Wolfox
  • Bayon Bakery
  • YouJuice

Wellness

If you’re into optimising your health and embracing self-care, West Hove has a few hidden gems that can rejuvenate your mind and body. These rituals promote relaxation and help you recover better to tackle your next workout.

  • Salt Space – Excellent for easing congestion and boosting your immune system.
  • Tree of Life – A holistic haven offering a wide range of treatments.
  • Body Base – Reliable, high-quality massages for post-workout recovery.

Boulder Brighton – A short walk from Portslade Station — perfect for a fun, active evening.

  • Sauna at Hove Lagoon to aid your recovery
